Delete Unused Apps From iTunes

by Gregory on February 18, 2011

If you’re anything like me you’ve plenty of apps on your iPad or iPhone that haven’t seen the light of day for ages. Every time an update arrives in iTunes for an app that hasn’t been used in forever I get this notion to do something, but then I digress.

The other day I looked at my iPhone apps in iTunes and realized there were more than a few apps that were unchecked; not even syncing to my iPhone.

Remove Apps from iTunes

Couple this with the apps on my iPhone that suffer from disuse and it all added up to some serious house-cleaning time. So for each app that I couldn’t recall the last time I used it, I deleted it completely off my MacBook Pro.

Move Apps to Trash

Now I don’t have to worry about all those apps sending me useless updates when they’re gone, baby gone. And worry not, Apple has a record of your app purchases so you can re-download them (under the guise of “Buying”) whenever you feel the need.

I guess at the very least I should have made a list of the apps I nuked. You know, just in case. (Deleter’s remorse?)

Nah. I’m good.

this is exactly what I want to do:
Delete Unused Apps From iTunes

BUT HOW?

The article has a pic that is asking to do just this, but I can’t find where it comes from!

Sorry about that! I delete apps from iTunes by right-clicking the app and clicking Delete. On a Mac and a PC I use the Delete key to delete an app in iTunes.

Misleading title. The “unused” part that is.

How can I tell an application isn’t used on my iPhone or my iPad (without bragging…)?

I should have put the second paragraph first, which would have been more appropriate given the title of the post. :)
