At the halfway point of the 2010 Health Challenge I’m narrowly behind my weight loss goal, but the exercise regimen is doing very well.
On Track with the Usual Struggles
I was thrown off track by a once-in-a-lifetime event: my daughter getting married.
Food intake was about normal during that five-day period, but I lost ground with my exercise plan and exceeded my alcohol consumption significantly.
Yet by adding a little more exercise time each day I was able to catch up to my scheduled plan in two weeks time.
For the past week I’ve had a head cold but doing cardio in the morning helps a great deal. And exercising is now a welcome routine instead of a constant struggle.
Metrics
I’ve lost 7.2 pounds. My pants are feeling loose.

And on track with my exercise plan:
- 4,200 core exercises
- 1,050 push-ups
- 12.5 hours of cardio
- 12.5 hours of walking
- 13 weight sessions
Tech Aids to Keep me Honest and Informed
As mentioned in an earlier post I use the Lose It! app on my iPhone to record food calorie intake and exercise calories burned. Adding the two together gives me my net calories each day, as show below for the first 29 days of January.
I’m also using three other iPhone apps that help me significantly:
Forward to the Second Half
In a few days, I will double my daily core exercises (200 to 400) and push-ups (50 to 100). Doing these exercises Monday through Friday will put me on track to reach my overall goal of 100,000 core exercises and 25,000 push-ups this year.
That seems like a lot, but if you break it down into small pieces it’s a manageable task. I plan on doing a short video on these core exercises in an upcoming blog post.
Stay tuned, we’re just getting started.
